Okay! I managed to park the car. But just like real life, tomorrow is another day and you have to keep remembering and applying the lessons you learnt online (or in driving school). I agree that driving virtually isn't the real deal. But I am sure you will also agree, that these driving educational tools have a place in the scheme of things. Tell us about your first day behind the wheel? How was the experience like? Do you think these virtual driving simulators help? Do you know any online learning to drive educational tool that deserves a mention?
The program lays out 15 scenarios a typical B.C. driver may have to respond to behind the wheel. Among them: Merging into a multi-lane roundabout, drivers opening their doors on a narrow residential street, making a left turn at a busy intersection and a deer bolting out onto the road.
Each time the user fails, a voice over explains exactly what went wrong and what the driver should have done. Recognizing potential hazards and how to navigate them virtually should better prepare drivers for the real thing were lives and property are on the line.
With more British Columbians getting their driver's licence than ever before, we encourage new drivers to use the Street Sense app as another tool to gain experience detecting hazards and keep them and others safe while behind the wheel," said ICBC vice-president Lindsay Matthews in a release
iRacing is the leading sim racing game for your PC. Developed as a centralized racing and competition service, iRacing organizes, hosts and officiates online racing on virtual tracks all around the world. Whether you are looking for the best online racing on your computer or prefer to compete against yourself and the clock, iRacing has you covered. All you need to start racing is a computer, driving wheel or controller, and an internet connection. The PC racing game has been running professional eSports series for over 10-years and is focused on growing this category of sim racing.
JWT Melbourne recently launched this 3D online driving simulator for VicRoads, the highway department of Victorial, Australia. The handy tool for young drivers taking the driver's learner permit test puts them in the driver's seat while giving test pointers along the way.
Get behind the wheel of one of the most iconic trucks on the road with this highly detailed Scania R-series simulation. Put your driving skills to the ultimate test with truck maneuvering challenges that serve as a practical exam as you strive to gain your licence. Complete intricately designed courses and tasks, in realistic environments that put you firmly into the driver's seat.
The Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering at Texas A&M University installed a new driving simulator to use in research pertaining to driving, autonomous vehicles and other vehicle technologies.
Here are the top three things you need to know about the simulator, including what types of research is currently being done and future areas of research that will help increase safety on the road, including a future with self-driving vehicles.
The state-of-the-art simulator features a 270-degree field of vision, which provides a realistic driving experience for the user. Field of vision is the area you can see on each side, your peripheral vision, while you look straight ahead. This is a very rare field of vision for a simulator and there are only a few simulators with this capability in the United States.
The Human Factors and Machine Learning Laboratory is using the simulator for research on autonomous vehicles and cyclist safety, in partnership with researchers in the Department of Landscape Architecture and Department of Psychological and Brain Sciences. This research looks at how bias may play a role in cyclist interactions with vehicles. Realistic driving scenarios were created for the simulator that allowed the researchers to measure the impact of bias on driver and cyclist interactions. This work was funded by the T3 grants awarded through the Office of the President.
Many different types of research can be done on the driving simulator including research on drowsy drivers, autonomous vehicles, on-road sign evaluation, driving education, driver behavior and much more.
Pay attention to international traffic rules, consider speed limits and stay aware of other drivers to gain maximum points! Manage routes through busy cities with huge traffic volume and deal with the difficult lighting conditions of night-time driving. More than 30 Levels with a wide variety of challenging scenarios require precision and concentration.
After listening to player feedback on Steam, CGA has incorporated a Virtual Reality mode and additional steering wheel support to the latest version of VDS. The VR version of the learner driver game takes the driving experience to whole new level.
"We will loan out the simulator to any reputable organization; so far, it's mainly been used in trainings by law enforcement and EMS and for educational purposes at high schools, especially during prom and graduation season, but it's available to other groups, too," she explains.
The simulator consists of a portable computer screen, steering wheel, pedals and goggles that simulate impaired vision. SMRTAC and other volunteers, including Gold Cross Ambulance, will deliver and pick up the device, which comes packed in two wheeled cases. Use of the simulator is free for those who run it themselves. There is a $100 fee if a SMRTAC volunteer sets up and runs the device.
Demand is already high, and Garber says it may take a few days to coordinate pickup and delivery schedules, but so far all requests have been met. Groups and organizations interested in using the simulator can fill out a request form on the SMRTAC website.
The simulator-for-rent program is a cooperative effort. "We're working with Toward Zero Deaths, Farmfest and other organizations to reach our common goal, which is to reduce the mortality of trauma patients in our state," Garber says.
Driving simulator motion bases are available having various mechanisms and characteristics; among them, the synergistic 6DoF hexapod-type integrated with a sliding rail is the most commonly used. There is a large variety in workspaces (sizes) of both the hexapod and sliding rail used in research and training simulators, and there lacks consensus on what size of motion base is really needed in order to have high fidelity motion cueing. In this paper we introduce an approach that balances between having high fidelity motion cueing and at the same time addressing the minimum size requirement to reduce the purchase cost. A conventional classic motion cueing algorithm (MCA) is used together with an optimization method to establish the minimum workspace requirement, while meeting the fidelity criteria defined in literature. The right sizing requirements are driving task dependent, so in order to test this method, low and high motion-demanding driving tasks are tested using the experimental data collected from professional drivers. A standard (high) and a reduced (low) amount of tilt coordination is selected, showing how this defines a range of rail sizes to consider. 2ff7e9595c
